There is a landfill by work. Eww…
Rainy day blogging…
20 05 2008As I mentioned, I’m terrible at keeping a “post frequently” promise. Between this entry and last, life has been very busy. My grandmother passed away, I threw my sister a baby shower, I accepted a job offer, and started my job! Despite the family loss, life has been good-busy.
I want to move on from my life and talk about design for once…
So we all know how the “green” movement has become this insanely popular concept. I can’t think of any major company or organization that hasn’t in some regard marketed their steps towards being “green”. The funniest part is that many of these companies hardly make a difference in their footprint on our earth. Whatever…at least this is causing CFLs to be cheaper. So why I mention this movement is because over 2 years ago now, I designed a “green” kit for graphic designers on how to be environmentally friendly. I made the kit “for” AIGA’s Center for Sustainable Design…it’s a shame I didn’t market it to them. They may have gone for it…check it out:

It was an extended, 3-piece mailer with a warning postcard and pop out/fold up monster and 3 body parts, the full kit (complete with a full size monster, 8 postcard mailers with tear-offs to keep, 7 blank notecards, 6 letterheads, a bunch of body parts for the monsters, and a lot of information), and a warning postcard with another monster to fold up. Such a fun project.

Even more new endeavors!
26 04 2008I started this blog with the expectation to update it fairly frequently. I should know by now that I’m terrible at keeping promises like that…
For months now, I have been actively job searching for a graphic design position. The market has been awful, but I’m starting to see the light! Not only have the past two weeks been filled with interviews, but I received two job offers! I know that if I didn’t take any of those two positions, I’d be a dummy. One job is a great learning experience and will challenge me, but is semi-far away. The other job would be stifling to my creativity and much less challenging, but was close to home. Gas prices are going up and I know I would have to deal with summer traffic going down to the Jersey Shore…quite a dilemma!
Although the travel is going to stink, I am excited to say that I have gladly accepted the position at the company farther away from home. I won’t stay there forever, but at least I know that the experience I take with me will be valuable.
This blog is relatively new, but if it ever blows up and people read this early entry, please answer this: What would you have done in that situation? Better job/more travel or Job below your skill level/better commute?

A new endeavor!
22 04 2008I begin this blog chucking at myself – a blog? Really Steph, a blog? AND A DESIGN BLOG?! How wonderfully creative of me!
No, no, no! I don’t want to begin this on a mocking note, not at all! I realize the internet is filled with people writing about design and art, but the beauty in this internet forum is simply the efficient manner in which we can share ideas. The world is diverse and wonderful. The art it holds should never be limited to anyone in any means…nor the subjective opinions of that art. That is the idea behind this blog. To showcase the beautiful art that surrounds and stimulates me to create my own art; and even sometimes to share my creations with the internet world.
I see this new endeavor as a great thing…hopefully others will get interested too.
